A credo for journalism? With orchids and charisma? Not ten commandments, just three "I believes" from Mathias Döpfner, head of the Axel Springer publishing empire: "Firstly: I believe that even in future, young people will read a newspaper in the morning, on paper or on electronic paper, if it deals with their lives, with their issues, problems and dreams... "Secondly: I believe that the newspaper of the future can only captivate its readers if it is backed up by confident, charismatic (although not necessarily divine) figures who provide leadership... "And thirdly: I can hardly imagine a better metaphor for good journalism than gospel. Gospel is movement, gospel is spirit, and gospel is soul... " He has a lot more to say, complete with bolded key phrases like orchids, laughter and enough trash... My favorite, "The Internet site of the future has not fifty but fifty million reporters." See the whole article in the original German. 11:30:04 AM     Wiki-Wacky Woo Harvard Alas, the second annual gathering for people wacky about Wikis --Wikimania 2006-- conflicts with the AEJMC annual convention in early August. Wikis at Harvard and journalism educators in San Francisco, and me with hardly a coin to flip. In a good example of online "transparency," the blogging news librarian known as "j" has a disclaimer, as well as good links for anyone thinking of Wikimania in August: Did I mention anything about Wikimania registration?. Wikimania registration costs increase on Monday, July 10. Volunteers might get a discount. Disclaimer: I am now in charge of wrangling volunteers for Wikimania, among plenty of other tasks.
