"That's Glenn Reynolds of Instapundit in the Tennessee Libertarian trunks. And that's Jerome Armstrong of MyDD in the colors of California and the Opposition."

That's how Christopher Lydon's Open Source radio/Web interview program introduced last night's guests, both authors of new books on the blogging of politics, journalism and the media. Despite their different political perspectives, the conversation was no slugfest, but it did illustrate the program's convergence of formats -- talk radio, weblog and online forum.

Lydon uses his website to collect questions and comments even before the interview begins, then broadcasts, streams and podcasts the program itself. The last time I looked, the written comments from more than 60 readers were well over 11,000 words.

I downloaded the podcast version and listened on an evening stroll... during which I missed tonight's edition of the show. There's just no keeping up with this stuff. But I do want to catch the discussion of other kinds of convergences coming up next week. The OpenSource site calls it "a high-concept show."
"We[base ']re going to talk about convergences, and we want to hear yours - your own moments of sudden shock when two seemingly disparate moments, images, figures, phrases of music or text come together in a way that[base ']s eerily prophetic and almost poetic."
